L.P.Manikandan has obtained his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (CAD/CAM) from Anna University in the year 2006 and was awarded with Bachelor’s degree in Automobile Engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in the year 2004. He was working as Senior Research Fellow in Aircraft Projects Division in Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), DRDO lab in Chennai. He was working in the field of design and analysis of aerospace bearings for the application in LCA-Tejas aircraft. He was involved in developmental and qualification test of indigenously developed bearings.
He joined CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories in April 2008 as Scientist in Gr.IV(1). He is also a member of National Test Facility for Rolling Element Bearings; the only test facility in India for the testing of indigenously developed and imported rolling element bearings & lubricants. His areas of work involved are Machine design, design of test rigs, qualification test of aerospace bearings and lubricants. He is also involved in characterization of smart materials like magnetostrictive elements and magnetorheological fluids for probable use of shaft vibration control. His area of interest is bearing analysis & simulation, heat generation in bearing components, correlation of experimental data. He is also involved in performance evaluation of indigenously developed main shaft bearings for Kaveri engine, GE engine mainshaft bearings of commercial aircraft, commercially-off-the-shelf bearings for LCA Naval version, BrahMos strap bearings, plain spherical bearings for Rustom UCAV, etc.
