Mr. Lohith N has a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of science, Bengaluru (2008) and has Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan (2000). He joined NAL in the year 2002 and has since been working in the area of design of composite structures for aerospace applications. He has a vast experience of design of composite structures for military and civil aircraft which include design of composite Rudder for LCA(TEJAS) aircraft and composite co-cured Wing, co-cured Fin and co-cured Front top skin for SARAS aircraft. He has also contributed in tool design for fabrication of spars for SARAS co-cured wing. He was a core member of RTA (Regional Transport Aircraft) and NCAD (National Civil Aircraft Development) programs and successfully led the wing structural design team to completion of feasibility studies for NCA. He is currently working on the design of composite wing for AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) and Design of composite wing for HANSA NG aircraft. He has developed many software programs for sizing of composite structures using Matlab and Microsoft Excel. He and his team have mastered the numerical optimization technique for sizing of composite structures using FEA. This optimization technique is particularly helpful in preliminary design phase for sizing the composite structures and to get a quick and realistic estimates of structural weight which is very crucial in the preliminary design phase. He has published two journal papers, six conference papers and 30 technical project documents.
He and his team were awarded the ‘ISAMPE A P J Abdul Kalam Technology Group award’ in January 2016 for design and development of composite co-cured torsional box for SARAS Fin.
He has guided two M-Tech students for their Master’s thesis. His areas of interest include Design and Optimization. He has delivered guest lectures at Engineering colleges.
His personal interests include Tennis, Chess, Classical music and Indian traditions.
