Aeroelastic model testing

STTD, CSIR-NAL has been involved over past four decades in contributing to the various national programs in solving experimentally the critical aeroelastic problems such as buffet, flutter, divergence, gust etc., for various launch vehicle and aircraft structures.

The division has the expertise and requisite facilities towards this aeroelastic model testing technology. It involves designing of scaled aeroelastic models simulating structure’s dynamic characteristics, fabrication, instrumentation, static testing, ground vibration testing, wind tunnel testing and data analysis.

Facilities:

  • Model design and analysis centre

  • Aeroelastic model making facility

Aeroelastic model testing facility equipped with industry standard high fidelity data acquisition systems (Siemens LMS SCADAS Lab) and software (Test.Lab) to carry out static and vibration testing.

Year of Establishment
2010
Test Applications
  • Estimation of Buffet loads in transonic and supersonic flow regimes for structural design clearance of various Launch vehicles (SLV, ASLV, PSLV, GSLV MkII, GSLVMk3, RLV-TD, GSLVMk-II –F10, Gaganyaan-

    Test vehicle, Gaganyaan (HLVM3))

  • Flutter clearance for aerospace and aircraft structures ( HF-24 wing, ROHINI FIN, SLV-3 Fin, LCA wing,

SARAS T-Tail, Black kite MAV, RLV, Gaganyaan-Grid Fin of Crew Escape System)
