Arun Kumar has been working in the field of acoustic qualification of spacecraft /launch vehicles , high channel count data acquisition systems, acoustic and vibration instrumentation as well as analysis of ground vibration specifically with respect to buildings for semiconductor processing . He has also been working in the field of environmental acoustics and has been a member of the National Committee on Noise Pollution Control tasked with the formulation of guidelines and laws in noise pollution control. He currently heads the ISRO-NAL Acoustic Test Facility.
In his work spanning 28 years, he has been continuously engaged in creating a modern, state of art acoustic test facility which has been keeping with the times in terms of equipment and reliability. He has been responsible for the induction of state of art equipment and instrumentation which has been widely responsible for a very small turn around time between tests. The facility reliability can be gauged from the fact that there has not been a single system failure in the last 3000 tests carried out in the facility. He has also inducted high quality signal conditioning equipment which has been responsible for the excellent quality of response data provided to the users. He has proven experience in open loop simulation of noise spectra in reverberation chamber based test facilities. He has worked on measurement and analysis of ultra short duration transient noise events for aircraft qualification such as the deployment of cockpit canopy ejection systems for the Tejas and IJT aircraft as well as gearbox noise analysis for the Advanced Light Helicopter. He has also been a member of the National Committee on Noise Pollution Control of the Ministry of Environment & Forests and the Central Pollution Control Board for more than a decade and has worked on the formulation of a number of noise control laws. He has also been responsible for the formulation of System & Procedure documents for the control of noise from Power generation equipment.
He also works in the field of environmental acoustics and industrial noise measurements and analysis.
He has also been responsible for noise measurements and analysis leading to national and international certification of automotive and IT products..
