Prof. Narasimha Flies High on RTA Wings

For many of the old timers in NAL, July 20 is eagerly awaited. It is not that we get our increment or so. It happens to be Prof. Roddam Narasimha's (RN) birthday. Thanks to Dr. U. N. Sinha, this day is when Prof. RN is compelled to feed NAL staff with a technical cake. Year after year, Prof. RN has fed us well. Cakes have always been very different each time. This time it seemed like a bigger cake well suited to the taste of NAL since Prof. RN chose to speak on "New wings for New Turboprops". Introducing the problem he said that the turboprops have some great advantages which we could afford to ignore so far owing to low fuel costs. But no longer we can do so since the fuel prices have started to rise.

NAL's Footprint at AeroIndia 2009

The seventh edition of the Aero India was held from February 11-15, 2009. The format of first three days for business and the next two days for general public continued into this year as well. NAL had set up an even bigger stall this year. A good 160 square metres in all. The stall was based on “open access” concept and provided ample space for people to see the exhibits. The technologies were displayed on the periphery of the stall and a good number of plasmas provided an overview for the casual onlooker. The central area displayed the one is to one scale mock up of the NM5, scaled version of Saras. It turned out that the NM5 and the Saras models were the biggest attractions.

National Technology Day 2009

India made an important tryst with destiny in the desert sands of Rajasthan on May 11 1998 by successfully carrying out nuclear tests at the Pokhran range. This significant day is now celebrated in India as National Technology Day.

At NAL, this year we celebrated National Technology Day on 11 May 2009. The programme started with a welcome address by NAL Director Dr A R Upadhya. Dr Upadhya stated that Technology Day symbolizes India’s technology prowess - conducting a nuclear test at Pokhran, the successful test firing of the Trishul Missile and the maiden flight of the indigenous two-seater Hansa-3. These achievements in Science and Technology has given our country enviable strength and self-confidence to stand on our own. He introduced the chief guest Mr H N L N Simha, Vice President (Strategic Electronics Center), Larsen & Toubro Limited, Bangalore as a young, dynamic, next generation leader.
