Welfare Schemes for SC/ST community at CSIR-NAL, Bengaluru

CSIR-NAL offers various welfare schemes for the upliftment of SC/ST community. In the year 1993 two major schemes were introduced, one of the scheme offers invites meritorious students who have secured highest marks in science subject in SSLC examination conducted by Karnataka Examination Board. This scheme involves the cash award along with visit of students to our organization to explore the career opportunities in the scientific area. This also extended to the wards of the NAL employees. Another scheme provides one-year apprentice training for ITI students with stipend, and the program helps the students to involve in major R&D activities being carried out in NAL thus helping them to get hands on experience, upgrade their technical knowledge while working with scientists and technical staffs. This helps them to find better avenues in their future prospects. Under this project as many as 425 ITI students were provided the training till date.

In the year 1994, CSIR-NAL also introduced training programmes to fresh Diploma, B.Sc., and Engineering Graduate students. This gives an opportunity to get trained at various nationally and internationally recognized facilities of NAL and their association with the Scientists to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Under this scheme, 375 Graduate Engineers, 220 Diploma holders were inducted to various Divisions of NAL and this programme has also helped the unemployed youth to find very good placements during the tenure of the training and also after the completion of the training.

CSIR-NAL also offers welfare measures by inviting the unemployed youths from the general public for the following training programmes during the years 1998 and 2003. During the period 14-21 December 1998, a free training programme on "Fibre Glass Composite Technology" was held and about 25 candidates participated in the programme. This training programme has helped the unemployed youth to get hands-on experience in the composite field and has paved the way for starting their own small scale industries or to get a suitable employment elsewhere. A free computer software, hardware and networking training was conducted for the unemployed SC/ST youth during 17-20 March 2003. About 20 candidates participated in this progamme and upgraded their skills and knowledge in these fields.
