Mission Summary
Perch Sites
Overview:
The hostage building is partially surrounded by 3 – 5 meter tall concrete and brick structures which offer potential perch sites for MAV’s to monitor the movement of the red team (terrorist) guards, scan for hostage visuals and audio signatures, and conserve power. There are four approved perch sites near the hostage building. Each offers a concrete surface to land on with less than 1 degree of slope. Perch site vary in size from a 5m diameter circle to a 10m x 10m square. Center mass grid coordinates with 4m accuracy will be provided to the teams to approximately target the approved perch sites. Landing on structures other than the approved perch sites is prohibited. Prevailing winds tend to be from 315 degrees. The plowed fields to the Northeast and Northwest of the perch sites are outside the no-fly line. Perch sites are only accessible by ladder. If teams plan to use perch sites, they must work with the mission director to develop a recovery plan to quickly and safely remove the MAV from the site between demonstrations in the event that it is unable to fly to a MAV landing point.
