Technology for preparation of light-weight alumina tri hydrate (ATH) for filler applications

Low apparent density (0.24-0.50 gm/cc) alumina trihydrate (ATH) powder widely used for filler applications have been  prepared by controlled hydrolysis of the saturated aluminate concentrate. The low tap density of the powder was maintained due to porous agglomerates of fine particles. The powder meets the specifications required for applications such as flame retardant material, as filler in paper, plastic, rubber and paint industries. A patent was filed and technical know-how was transferred to M/s. Mysore Minerals Private Limited for commercialization.

A novel process technology for preparation of high purity alpha-alumina widely used in ceramic industry

Low soda (<150 ppm) and fine grained (d50=0.9-1.3mm.) a-alumina powders (free from transition aluminas) were prepared from aluminium metal and also from Bayer’s intermediate (alumina trihydrate) in the temperature range of (450°C-550°C) and in the pressure range of (30-40 MPa) by hydrothermal synthesis.
