Tape casted ceramic substrates
A tape cast based process has been developed for Al2O3 and ZrO2 substrates for space electronics, oxygen sensor and solid oxide fuel cell applications. The process is also being explored for the fabrication of substrates of functional materials like NiMn2O4, NiO-YSZ, doped ceria, scandia stabilized zirconia, glass sealant, etc. (2338DEL2015). Currently, work is focused towards the development of AlN and modified alumina green ceramic substrates suitable for high temperature co-fired ceramics (HTCC) for space electronics applications.
Surface modification of biomedical grade alloys
A variety of plasma and chemical routes have been optimized for the modification of titanium alloy surfaces. Suspension and solution precursor plasma sprayed hydroxyapatite coatings have qualified the in-vitro studies. A continuous electro-polishing process has been established in the Division for NiTi shape memory alloy wires developed by Materials Science Division, which are being targeted for orthodontic and stent applications. In-vitro studies confirmed the biocompatibility of these surfaces.
